Grenade for Shell

A plain shell, from your pocket.

Not everything is an agent. Run the tests, a dev server or a deploy in a shell beside your agents, and check on it from your phone.

What you get

Shell on your Mac, in your hand.

Your own shell

A shell session runs your shell in the folder you choose, as a terminal window on the Mac would.

Beside your other sessions

Sessions in the same folder form a group: one entry on the phone, side by side in one tab if you use iTerm2.

The keys a terminal needs

Enter, Esc, Ctrl-C, Tab and the arrows sit on a key row above the keyboard. Stop a server or walk back through history.

Type or talk

Send text from the keyboard, or hold the mic and speak. Speech is turned into text on the phone, and lands in the field first so you can fix it.

Told when the long one ends

A command that ran for 30 seconds or more sends a notification when it stops. A quick one does not.

Still there tomorrow

Sessions live in tmux. Close the window, or the app, and the command keeps running. Attach from any terminal on the Mac.
Status

How the phone knows

A shell has no hooks, so the daemon watches its output: a screen that is changing means working, a screen that has settled means it is waiting for you. Once you have looked, it goes idle.

Start one

On the Mac

Mac
grenade new tests --cwd ~/code/api --agent shell
grenade open tests # attach this terminal (Ctrl-b d to detach)

Not installed yet? Two steps on the Mac.

Questions

Before you install.

What can I run in a shell session?

Whatever runs in your terminal: the tests, a dev server, a deploy, any command-line tool. It is your own shell, in the folder you choose.

How does Grenade know a command has finished?

A shell has no hooks, so the daemon on your Mac watches the screen: output that keeps changing means working, a screen that has settled means it is waiting for you.

Can I stop a dev server from my phone?

Yes. Ctrl-C is on the key row above the keyboard, with Enter, Esc, Tab and the arrows.

Does the command stop when I close the app or the window?

No. The session lives in tmux on your Mac until you end it. Attach any terminal to it with grenade open.
