Claude Code in tmux

Your agents live in tmux. Your phone is one more way in.

tmux is how a Claude Code session outlives a closed window. Grenade starts every agent in a tmux session of its own, so it runs until you end it, and your terminal, the Mac app and your phone all show the same one.

What you get

tmux underneath, nothing to learn.

A tmux session per agent

Each one is an ordinary tmux session with gr- before its name. tmux ls lists them.

Closing a window ends nothing

The session outlives the window, the terminal app and the Grenade daemon. Only grenade kill ends it.

Attach from any terminal

grenade open api attaches the terminal you are in, and Ctrl-b d detaches. Over SSH, tmux attach -t gr-api does the same.

Windows only if you want them

No terminal window opens by itself. grenade terminal iterm opens every session in iTerm2, a tab per group; grenade terminal terminal uses Terminal.

The same screen on the phone

The phone shows the session's live terminal, with Enter, Esc, Ctrl-C, Tab and the arrows on a key row. What you type there is typed here.

tmux comes with it

brew install holdgrenade/tap/grenade brings tmux, and you never have to write a tmux command.
On the Mac

Start one, leave, come back

The session keeps running between these lines, whatever you close.

Not installed yet? Two steps on the Mac.

Mac
grenade new api --cwd ~/code/api --agent claude
grenade open api # attach this terminal; Ctrl-b d detaches
tmux attach -t gr-api # the same, in plain tmux
grenade kill api # end it
Questions

Before you install.

Do I need to know tmux?

No. grenade new, open, ls and kill cover it, and the apps never show the word.

Can I use tmux as I always do?

Yes. Grenade's sessions sit beside your own in the same tmux, with gr- before their names. It leaves sessions it did not start alone.

What about a Claude Code I started by hand?

Grenade lists the sessions it started. Start the agent with grenade new and it is in tmux, on the phone, and reports its status.

What happens when my Mac sleeps?

A sleeping Mac runs nothing, so the agent stops with it. The session is still there when the Mac wakes.
