Grenade or Claude Code Remote Control?

Remote Control is built into Claude Code and is the quickest way to reach a Claude session from the Claude app. Grenade is for when there are several agents, not all of them Claude, and you want to see which one needs you.

Side by side

Claude Code Remote Control and Grenade.

Claude Code Remote ControlGrenade
What it isA feature of Claude Code: it connects claude.ai/code or the Claude app to a session running on your machineA daemon on your Mac that runs each agent in a tmux session, with apps for iPhone, Android and Mac that show them all

Where you answer fromThe Claude app on iOS and Android, or any browserThe Grenade app on iPhone and Android, and the Grenade Mac app. No browser client

How traffic travelsThrough the Anthropic API over TLS. The session transcript is stored on Anthropic's serversDirectly on your Wi‑Fi, or through a relay that forwards bytes it cannot read. End-to-end encrypted both ways, and you can host the relay
Permission promptsForwarded to the phone and answered thereA card on the phone: allow once, or deny and say what to do instead. Questions and plans too
Several sessionsA list of sessions by name, with a green dot when one is onlineSessions grouped by project, each with a color: needs an answer, finished, working, idle
If the terminal closesThe local process must keep runningThe session lives in tmux: closing a window ends nothing

Which one

An honest pick.

Choose Claude Code Remote Control when

  • You run only Claude Code, a session or two at a time.
  • You want nothing more to install: it is already in Claude Code and the Claude app.
  • You want to answer from a browser.
  • You want a push notification today when Claude needs you.

Choose Grenade when

  • You run Codex or plain shells beside Claude Code and want them in one list.
  • You split a feature across several agents and need to see which one is waiting.
  • You do not want the transcript on a server: on your Wi‑Fi there is none, and the relay cannot read what it forwards.
  • You want your own terminal to stay: every session is a tmux session you can attach to.

How Grenade's pairing and encryption work, and who can read what: Security.
